Carbon dioxide bath
Carbon dioxide bath is a balneological treatment involving saturation of spring water with carbon dioxide (CO₂). During the bath, small gas bubbles appear on the skin surface, penetrating tissues and stimulating numerous physiological processes.
The most important therapeutic effect is dilation of capillary, arterial, and venous vessels, leading to improved circulation, lowered blood pressure, and slowed heart rate. This effect is achieved without high temperature – water temperature is 30–34°C, and treatment time is usually 10–15 minutes.
Indications
- arterial hypertension,
- peripheral vascular diseases (atherosclerosis, diabetes),
- heart defects with compensated circulation,
- neurological conditions,
- skin diseases.
